Founded by British backpacker Mark Edelston back in 2015, Purple Monkey Hostel has been specifically designed for the modern millennial backpacker. We know the people who you meet are undoubtedly just as key to your experience as the places that you visit. With that in mind we have set up a hostel that promotes interaction between guests, with big social areas to make friends and share recommendations of the best things to do in Medellin.


Our roof terrace bar is the ideal place to socialise and meet like minded backpackers from all over the world. The terrace is decorated with graffiti murals painted by one of the most acclaimed artists of the Comuna 13 area of Medellin. For this reason it is the perfect place to unwind after a long day of sightseeing, or to start drinking before a crazy night in the bars of nearby Parque Lleras.

We initially booked for 2 nights but ended up spending a week because we simply loved it there! Hostel has a cool terrace/bar where we met some nice people to go out with. Hostel is clean, has comfy beds, great staff, large kitchen and probably the best shower I had in my 6 month trip! Strongly recommended ! 10/10

Such a wonderful and helpful team. Management, Reception, Night staff and Housekeeping go above and beyond to ensure that you feel welcome and get the most out of your time in Medellín. Location is easy to navigate with lots to do in the local area. Facilities are modern, special mention goes to the 10/10 showers. The atmosphere was phenomenal everyday and night, this hostel seems to attract the best travellers. I loved my stay at Purple Monkey!
